Route 6A Improvements

Updated May 20, 2019

The Town of Yarmouth is conducting a series of public meetings in May to garner input on a variety of concepts to improve the Route 6A Corridor in Yarmouth from Willow Street to Union Street. The first two meetings on May 9th and May 15th were very well attended with lots of good dialogue with residents. The PowerPoint presentation is available at the link at the bottom of the page. This PowerPoint has been enhanced with supplemental background information and photos, but no changes have been made to the proposed concepts. The May 15th meeting was also recorded and can be seen on the Yarmouth Youtube Channel at

To accommodate busy schedules, there is one more public meeting scheduled of this same general presentation:

  • May 22nd at 2 PM - Howes Hall at the First Congregational Church of Yarmouth, 329 Route 6A, Yarmouth Port

Consulting firm VHB was hired by the Town of Yarmouth to develop conceptual plans for possible streetscape improvements and watermain replacement along Route 6A from the Barnstable Town Line to Union Street. VHB will be continuing the corridor improvement efforts that were previously completed by the Town and the Cape Cod Commission (CCC), including a Road Safety Audit to identify potential safety enhancements, and a Corridor Streetscape Study to identify potential streetscape improvements along Route 6A from Willow Street to Union Street (see links below). These studies were initiated to address resident concerns regarding safety, roadway maintenance, aesthetics, parking, pedestrian accommodations, signage, and amenities within the Village Center, all while taking into consideration the historic nature and beauty of the area.

VHB has completed a field survey to identify existing features and better define the limits of the State Layout for Route 6A. Utilizing the survey data and their own streetscape inventory, VHB expanded upon the recommendations from the CCC Route 6A Corridor Streetscape Study to develop concept plans, illustrative renderings, sections, and visualizations.

Input from the public meetings will be utilized by the Town and VHB to develop preferred concept plans. These alternatives will be presented to the public in a second series of public meetings to garner public input on the preferred concepts. More publicity will be forthcoming once the dates of those meetings have been solidified. The Town is in the initial stages of developing alternatives and public input is vitally import to defining any future project or projects along Route 6A.
